“New Research-Based Platform Helps Religious Judicatories Enhance Congregational Vitality”

The above headline is actually a press release that went live this week – and notice that the headline is the link to the press release! (Check it out!) We felt it was well past time for us to toot our horn a bit more regarding this amazing tool. In an era where many faith communities face declining attendance and engagement, this new tool offers a first step toward revitalization. The Congregational Vitality Assessment (CVA) and the Congregational Vitality Assessment – Judicatory Platform (CVA-JP), developed by The FaithX Project, empower religious judicatories—such as dioceses, conferences, and denominational offices—to measure and strengthen the health of their congregations.

Why Congregational Vitality Matters

Congregational vitality refers to the spiritual health, engagement, and sustainability of faith communities. Vibrant congregations are not just growing numerically; they foster deep connections, serve their communities, and adapt to changing needs. However, many religious leaders struggle to assess what truly makes a congregation thrive. The CVA platform addresses this challenge by providing data-driven insights, helping leaders move beyond guesswork and purely anecdotal evidence.

How the Assessment Works

The Congregational Vitality Assessment is an online tool that leverages research-based metrics to evaluate 11 key aspects of a congregation’s health, including:

  • Worship & Discipleship – Are members growing spiritually?
  • Mission & Outreach – How is the congregation serving its community?
  • Leadership & Governance – Are leaders equipped for effective ministry?
  • Financial Health – Is the congregation stewarding resources well?

Judicatories can use the platform to:

  • Benchmark congregations against similar faith communities.
  • Identify strengths and areas for growth through customized reports.
  • Develop targeted strategies for improvement.

The assessment has been used by over 2,000 congregations in eight different denominations from several countries, ensuring relevance across different contexts.

What’s Next for Faith Communities?

Religious leaders are increasingly recognizing the need for adaptive, data-informed ministry. The Congregational Vitality Assessment is not just about numbers—it’s about fostering deeper faith, stronger communities, and sustainable impact. The CVA is more than holding up a mirror to the congregation. It’s a roadmap for growing more thriving congregations.

Single congregations can access the CVA for only $35 and judicatories can start their own CVA-JP ranging from $2,495 to $3,495 depending on the number of congregations in the judicatory, with a one-time set up fee.
